2024: Year in Review

Wow! 2024 was our first whole year in operation. We can't thank you enough for the support you provided this year. Because of you were were able to...

  • Save THREE animals! This is HUGE for a small sanctuary like us. We changed the lives of 3 souls who now get to live their best lives.

  • Add an amazing new shared grazing space called "Queen's Wish Pasture"

  • Add an additional cow shelter and storage space to accommodate care for three cows

  • Complete Cow Beach which provides a comfy space for the cows with great footing for Maxime, our 2,000 lb cow with arthritis

  • We held 5 community events and participated in 3 town events, which helped us meet local folks and share education on animal welfare

  • We provided 20 farm tours that include the stories of our herd and educational facts about caring for farm animals

Join us walking through the year below. Thanks for being here on this journey. The animals could not live these lives without  your ongoing support.

Winter 2024

We started the year off with our first ever inperson fundraiser event: Save the Swallows! in Feburary.  66 people painted birdhouses to put up at the sanctuary to provide natural fly prevention. See them at the sanctuary here https://www.facebook.com/reel/1165910161073514

Spring

Queen B had some health issues, which spurred us into finishing the shared grazing pasture. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1764296837314594

Our First Annual Team Tennis Tournament was a smash! See the results here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/424033847265772

We kicked off Donkey Treks! View one of the families having a fun time.

We transformed a 1980's trailer into a beauty queen! This is our first trailer for the sanctuary. It makes us mobile and provides us the option to transport animals in an emergency.

Summer

Summer at the sanctuary was extremely busy. In addition to all the projects, we added 2 new animals.

Molly the highland cow cross arrived from Live and Let Live Rescue to join Marge and Maxime. Molly came from an auction then hoarding situation. She was never with any cows until she arrived at B&B and did not know how to act like one. Watch her first meeting with Marge and Maxime here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/839858734708906

Next... at the end of June, we took in Sybill the goat off the streets. She was in a terrible state of neglect and critically ill. She is our 'from trash to treasure' story. Somone dumped her like trash, but now we get to care for this treasure of a goat. Watch her story here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z1RJjYi3Zw

While new animals arrived, we worked hard on multiple projects which improves the quality of life for the animals.

View the video of completed Cow Beach including a new shelter on this page! We added 100 tons of material thanks to generous supporters to make this a perfect place for the cows.

We raised funds to complete a shared grazing space. We thought this was Queen's last summer, but she has thankfully proved us wrong. She loves this addition so much that she doesn't want to go. View Queen's Wish Grazing Pasture: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1035247831487508

Fall/Winter

In September, Lily the goat arrived to be Sybill's forever friend! She came from MSPCA in Methuen, MA. She was from a hoarding situation and is the same age as Sybill. There were lots of shenanigans as they were getting to know each other, but they are now good friends!

Pumkin donations are always a hit with the herd. We received donations from local businesses, Spring Ledge Farm and Kathan Gardens.

Fall is a time to prep for winter, so there is not much to report other than alot of work to get the herd ready for the winter season.

Goals for 2025!

We still can't believe all that we accomplished in 2024! We can't wait to see what 2025 brings!

We have some goals in mind including;

  • Upgrades that allow the animals to live in comfort and allow for efficiency of their care. This includes: electricity in multiple outdoor locations so that heated buckets and lighting can be provided. We currently have no electricity or water hook up available near the cows.

  • We also want to add stall mats to the mini herd barn to reduce dust for one donkey (Big D) with chronic asthma.

  • Improve our road to the cow area and around the sanctuary. This requires more stone and gravel to make this road passable all year round. We currently have alot of drainage projects that are needed to keep the cow area dry.

  • Continue our community outreach efforts to maximize educational opportunities that promote animal welfare

Sanctuary Resident's Goals:

  • Mini Horse Queen B wants to spend another summer in the grazing pasture. We need a brush hog to really improve the quality of the pasture grass.

  • Molly the higland cow wants to get more social with people. The way to her heart is with food, so we will keep the snacks coming.

  • The goats want to offer walking experiences with the public. Lily and Sybill have already started their training and are loving it. They want to educate others about their care, so neglect of goats like them don't happen again.

A BIG future goal is to add a cottage for rescue bunnies. This vulnerable population would have an opportunty to thrive at B&B.

If you'd like to support our work, please consider donating. Your gifts are tax deductible and make a big difference to the animals.
